Feast of fishing should be Classic

MORE than 200 anglers are expected to hit the seas next month for the annual Easter Fishing Classic hosted by the Coffs Harbour Deep Sea Fishing Club.

The club's general manager, Carl Mower, said interest in the event was already strong with anglers from as far north as the Sunshine Coast and as far south as the NSW/Victorian border already indicating their interest to be involved.

While most of the action is on the water, Mower said the traditional fish auction held on the afternoon of Easter Sunday to raise money for the local Marine Rescue branch would be bigger than ever.

"It's going to be a family fun day which will have a great atmosphere with music on the deck as well as plenty of activities for the kids," Mower said.

"There'll be a jumping castle, camel rides, a water slide and an Easter treasure hunt."

Registration for the event will be on Thursday, March 24 with the three days of fishing starting the next day, Good Friday.

Already the prizes organised for the best catches are significant and it's hoped the prize pool will get an added boost in the next few days, with the club confident it will secure a naming rights sponsor for the Easter Fishing Classic.
