Fatal crash victim identified

POLICE have confirmed the woman who died in a smash near Macksville on Saturday was from Nambucca Heads.

However, investigators were yesterday not releasing the 19-year-old’s name at the request of her family.

A passer-by contacted police after discovering that a small Daewoo Matiz hatchback with Queensland number plates had crashed on the side of Rodeo Drive at Tewinga about 11.30pm.

Emergency crews attended but the driver died at the scene. She was the vehicle’s sole occupant.

Police said it appeared the car was being driven east on Rodeo Drive when it attempted to round a sweeping bend.

They said it appeared the vehicle then crossed to the wrong side of the road before careering off the road and rolling.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen the accident to contact Macksville police on 6568 1044.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
