Orange, black the trend for races

ORANGE and black might be considered an odd colour combination for a race day outfit, but it could be a huge trend at this weekend's CQ Amateur Race Day.

Event organisers have arranged a special Fashions in the Field award for the day to honour the world's number one racehorse, Black Caviar.

The award will recognise those fashion lovers who turn up to support the horse on her big day, by wearing her silk colours – orange and black.

The best female, male and child to get into the spirit will receive a share of the $1000 prize.

Laurena Heyes, owner of She's All That, said although they weren't the most

common colours, her store could cater for those wanting to take part.

“I have a few orange pieces,” Laurena said.

“And there's heaps of black so people can always wear black with orange accessories.”

She said she'd had plenty of people through the store already, though there wasn't a common theme for shoppers this year.

“There's no set colours, people are buying all different things. There's always a lot of people buying black and putting colour with it in a fascinator and accessories.”

She's All That will be open today and tomorrow morning, for those wanting to pick up some last-minute items, or a whole outfit.

“We always have people coming in on the morning. Some people come half-ready just wanting some extra pieces, some people come in and want to leave dressed to go. They want a dress and a fascinator, the lot,” Laurena said.

Anyone wanting to take part in the Fashions in the Field competition should be at the race day function stage before the running of the mare's feature race at Doomben.
