138km ride from Tannum Sands to Thangool for orangutans
AFTER a tough two days on his bike, Falk Richter finally made the 138km from Tannum Sands to Thangool.
Being a member of the Tannum to Tembak group, an organisation dedicated to orangutan conservation, Falk decided there was no better way to fundraise than to 'go on an adventure'.
Falk left Tannum Sands on his bike on Sunday at 2pm and arrived in Thangool the following Monday night.
"It was definitely the longest bike ride I have even done," Falk said.
"But it was very well worth it --- knowing that the money I was raising to do it was going to a cause I love."
But the ride did not come without its hardships.
Falk made camp along the Calliope River around 6pm on Sunday night, but was woken up when his hammock broke and he was swarmed by mosquitoes.
"So I got up and kept riding until I was too exhausted," Falk said.
"It was around 2.30am Monday morning and I fell asleep on the side of a road for a few hours wrapped only in a towel.
"I woke up round 5am, I was a bit sore and tired but set out to reach Biloela before it got too hot."
Falk was in Thangool by Monday night. He said he would do it all over again; already he has raised $275.
"Any donations would be greatly appreciated, I want to thank everyone who already has," he said.
