NEITHER floods nor tornadoes could stop Nichhia Wippell from getting to the Gold Coast last week to take out the crown at the Miss C Girl National Awards.

The Biloela local, who boards at Fairholme College, was determined to make it to the awards evening.

"We had to leave Biloela three days early and drive eight hours to Toowoomba when it's usually five," she said.

Just missing floodwaters rising in the Lockyer Valley, Nichhia was also lucky enough to miss the wild weather that battered the coast.

After coming second in a regional heat last June and getting a wild card into the national competition, Nichhia competed against other state winners before taking out the title.

"We were judged on our beauty, personality, promotions and also how well we can model," she said.

The rural and regional modelling competition was the first Nichhia had ever taken part in, after being entered by her mother and sister.

"I've always wanted to be in the fashion industry but wasn't sure what I wanted to do. But now if I can pursue it, I hope I can make a career in modelling," she said.

Her prize includes an interview with modelling agents in Sydney as well as a professional photo shoot to put pictures towards her portfolio.
