Ex-services through to zone 14 final
COFFS Ex-Services are the Mid North Coast grade-two district pennant champions after a hard-fought win over Stuarts Point at Urunga Bowling Club on Saturday.
After 63 ends, Coffs Ex-Services only had a four-shot advantage over Stuarts Point after winning two of the three rinks and they now progress to the Zone 14 final against Lower North Coast at Urunga on Sunday, May 31.
Despite a loss by Dallas Cole against Bryan Cullen, their two other skips, Kent Price and Denzil Owen were able to lead Coffs Ex-Services to victory.
West Coffs took a giant stride to win the grade-three district pennant with a convincing 6-0 (72-61) win over their nearest rivals Park Beach in round eight on Saturday.
They now have a 9.5 lead over Coffs Ex-Services and look to have a place in the Zone 14 final in their keeping with two matches remaining.
In the other grade-three matches, Macksville defeated Urunga 4-2 and Coffs Ex-Services downed Woolgoolga 5-1.
Grade 6 continues to be a tight battle with both sections still in doubt with one round remaining plus a deferred match if required.
In the southern section, North Beach took full advantage of a bye for Stuarts Point recording a 6-0 win over Nambucca Heads to take a one-point lead.
North Beach meet Bowraville in the final round at home while Stuarts Point travel to Nambucca Heads.
In the southern section, West Coffs lost 5-1 to Park Beach although this result was good enough to take a half a point lead over Nambucca Heads' other grade-six side who had the bye. With a bye to West Coffs in the final round, Nambucca Heads will be all out for victory in their match at Park Beach who are also still in the hunt sitting third on 19 points.
In grade seven, Park Beach crushed Sawtell 6-0 (79-44) to maintain their stranglehold on that division.
NIGEL Lamond and Paul Parramore are the Sawtell major pairs champions after a 23-20 victory over Peter Clarke and Ian Weldon in the final played on Sunday.
