Ewe little beauties

QUADS are pretty unusual in the human world and they are just as rare in sheep.

This crossbred ewe on Evelyn and Garry Dew’s property at Nana Glen gave birth to four lambs on Tuesday and is looking after and feeding all four – making sure they take turns for a feed on her two teats. The super mum, a three-year-old Border Leicester-Texel ewe, is in a lush rye grass paddock, where she is part of a flock which includes another ewe feeding triplets, so this is a productive spring in the Orara Valley.

Garry Dew said he had ‘got the shock of my life’ when he saw how many lambs the ewe had produced. The couple say they have never seen four lambs before.

They said although they “might have to supplement her a bit’ they were reluctant to interfere as long as she seemed to be managing well on her own.
