Evans wins Coffs Coast Rally

REIGNING champions Simon and Sue Evans snatched a dramatic victory in the Coffs Coast Rally yesterday after rivals Scott Pedder and Jon Mortimer rolled out of the race with a few kilometres to go.

Evans had won Heat One on Saturday in fine style and gave everything to peg back the flying Pedder, with the pressure obviously working.

And after rebuilding his motor on Saturday night, local rally star Nathan Quinn and David Green finished in second place, a fine reward for an all-night effort by his crew.

Eli Evans thrilled the crowds at the Sherwood Road spectator point by arriving at the tricky turn left at well over 100km/h almost backwards – he wrestled back control of the car and recovered but it cost himself valuable time.
