THOUSANDS of European carp have invaded St George’s Jack Taylor Weir after making their way upstream along a swollen Balonne River.
The noxious fish have been stranded in waterholes and dams in Queensland’s far west for years but the recent floods have allowed them to make their way to St George.
Their trip though was cut short once they arrived at the weir wall.
The Balonne Beacon’s Louise Wilson, who took a series of stunning photos of the trapped fish, was blown away by the scenes unfolding below Jack Taylor Weir.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” she said. “It’s quite an amazing sight.”
