Equestrian fans in horse heaven at Nana Glen this weekend

EQUESTRIAN enthusiasts have a huge weekend of horse sports planned for Nana Glen Recreation Centre.

A combined training and one day event competition will be held today with cross country phase eventing and show jumping on Sunday.

Event coordinator Shannon Marsh has extended an open invitation to come to the Orara Valley and enjoy this great spectator sport.

"We have 87 horses entered to compete over the weekend with people visiting from all along the coast," Shannon said.

"Action starts at 8.30am on Saturday and 9am on Sunday."

Eventing is an exercise where a single horse and rider compete across the three disciplines of dressage, cross-country and show jumping.

The sport has its roots in a comprehensive cavalry test requiring mastery of several types of riding.

A canteen will operate for food and drinks and there's plenty of shade with superb vantage points to watch competition.
