NRL wrap: Bloopers, blame and boots

COOPER'S BLOOPER: Even Melbourne Storm halfback Cooper Cronk had to laugh at his clumsy attempt to trap the ball between his legs in-goal from a kick restart as he watched it on the big screen a few times. Fortunately the Storm had the game in the bag and the comical error did not affect the result.

WILLIE NOT SHOULDERING THE BLAME: It doesn't take a lot to fire up Willie Mason, but he made a reasonably good point after copping a shoulder charge suspension on Friday night. Mason didn't see too much wrong with his 19th-minute hit on Souths forward Tom Burgess. However, under a recent rule change, he will miss two games after an automatic 200-point penalty. Mason said players should have had more notice. "You can't change the rules on a Friday for a Friday night game," he fired. You can if you are the NRL, Willie.

SIX OF THE BEST: Wests Tigers winger Pat Richards is worth a minimum six points a game with his deadly boot. The 33 year-old, who is off to Catalans Dragons next season, notched a remarkable milestone in the Tigers' two-point win over Canberra when he kicked his 1000th goal, the only player in the history of the game to do so. He has 1001 goals from 339 games in Australia and the UK.
