AFTER more than 90 years, Lismore-based trucking company Mills Transport has closed its doors, marking the end of an era.
More than 100 workers at Mills depots in Coffs Harbour, Lismore, Brisbane, Sydney, Harwood and Murwillumbah will lose their jobs as a result.
Director Reg Mills had said the company would do its best to find staff jobs with the new contractors who will take over the business.
Four generations of the Mills family have run the trucking company since it started in 1924.
The company served northern NSW and south-east Queensland, as well as along the Brisbane-Sydney corridor.
The family owners said they reached the decision to close after "forming the view that our investment in transport is no longer supported by the returns offered by the market".
Employees were given five weeks' notice the company would be closing.
A Facebook page, called Remembering Mills Transport, has been set up in honour of the long-established local business and has so far attracted 930 likes.
