Employment market weakening

ANOTHER fall in job advertisements points towards further weakness in the employment market.

The widely watched ANZ job ads series shows advertisements for new staff fell 1.2 per cent in June, following a 2.6 per cent slide in May.

Internet job ads have now fallen for three consecutive months, and are 8.5 per cent below levels a year ago.

Newspaper job advertising continues to slip further behind the internet, with ads down 3.3 per cent in June.

The fall in newspaper job ads was driven by Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia, while New South Wales and South Australia have seen an improving trend in job ads for the past three months.
