Emma the great in America

LOCAL golfer Emma de Groot is racking up the accolades while studying in America.

Currently in her senior year at the University of Tennessee in Chatta-nooga, where she’s completing a sports management course, de Groot was named as the Southern Conference women’s golfer of the week for all competition from March 2-8.

The talented local tied for third last week at the SunTrust Gator Women’s Golf Invitational at Gainesville, Florida.

Playing in a field that included nine of the top 50 college teams in the country, de Groot notched her third consecutive top-five finish and the 18th of her collegiate career.

De Groot fired a six-over 216 at the par-70 course to finish six strokes off the lead.

She led the tournament with 40 pars while rising from 15th to third with a final-round 70.

As one of the top-ranked golf schools in the country, de Groot and the rest of her ‘Mocs’ teammates are on target for the NCAA Regionals at Daytona Beach in May and hope-fully the NCAA finals to be played a fortnight after that in Texas.
