Emma shines in the States with top-10 finish

A BIRDIE on the last hole thrust Coffs Harbour golfing product Emma de Groot into a top-10 finish at the latest Symetra Tour event in the United States.

Playing in the Toyota Danielle Downey Classic at the Brook-Lea Country Club in Rochester, NY in the week she celebrated her 27th birthday, de Groot carded a final round 4-under par 68 to jump from a tie for 22nd into a tie for 10th.

This is the first time this year the right-hander has finished in the top-10 in a Symetra Tour event, the level below the prestigious LPGA Tour.

Last year de Groot's best result was a tie for 8th in Florida's Natural Charity Classic.

After 45 holes, de Groot was even with the card but came home strong shooting a 34 on the back nine on Saturday followed by a pair of 34s in the final round.

The result saw de Groot pocket a cheque for $2907 moving her up to 37th on this year's money list for the Tour.

Strong results for the rest of the year is the goal for the Coffs Harbour Golf Club member as she chases her dream of earning a LPGA tour card.

A solid performance in the demanding Q-School in December last year means de Groot secured conditional LPGA Tour status for 2015.
