Emergency services respond to house fire

UPDATE: FIRE crews say this afternoon's house fire in Gundagai St appears to have been caused by a slow combustion wood heater, which was left burning unattended.

Talking to media at the scene, a short time ago firefighters said it appears that embers have escaped from the heater and ignited on the floor.

Flames have then caught on to a nearby wall.

No one was at home at the time and the Triple-0 call was made by neighbours.

Authorities are in the process of notifying the occupants.
