SUNSHINE Coast beauty Ema Masters has done the beach girls of Australia proud by taking second place in the final of the Miss Bikini World competition in China.

The bubbly blonde, who this year represented Queensland in the Miss Universe Australia final, sent an excited text message to her mum Chris late Sunday night.

But in what Chris described as “typical Ema”, the 20-year-old spent most of the message saying how happy she was for the Latvian girl who took the title.

“Oh, by the way, I came second,” her message finally says.

“That’s just how she is – she’s a beautiful person,” Chris said.

“It’s just fantastic – I am so happy for her and I think she’ll be over the moon.

“She went over there to win but I’m really glad she’s happy with second.

“We are as proud as punch.”

Chris said she had not been able to contact her daughter since the message and thought she was either catching up on sleep or doing promotional work.

“She said she hadn’t slept for 24 hours and was exhausted.

“They’ve been working so hard since they got there (on October 7). Every day they’ve had functions and promotions.”

And there’s plenty of hard work ahead of the young model, with the final of the Miss Model of the World competition also in China in a week, followed by a photo shoot in the Philippines.

Chris said she expected Ema home for a well-earned rest in early December.
