THE Elly Stig Memorial Golf Day has once again been a resounding success.

A total of $21,000 was raised on Sunday for research into childhood cancer.

Despite the forecast of poor weather a record number of 118 golfers hit off for the event which is now into its 18th year.

Newcastle Knights coach Rick Stone and Penrith’s Nigel Plum presented the prizes to the winners.

Brioney Doney from the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia attended the popular event at the Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club.

There were some big bids for some of the memorabilia items that were up for auction.

The top auction item was a package for 10 people to attend the Bowraville Cup in July.

This item fetched an extraordinary $1100.

Not far behind this item was the $1020 bid for a Queensland State of Origin jersey signed by the whole team as well as $970 for a framed cap and ball signed by great Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath.
