Eliminated team wants competitors at their wedding

ENGAGED Queensland couple Maddi and Lloyd extended wedding invitations to the remaining three House Rules teams tonight after the pair was eliminated following another poor placing in the exterior challenges last night.

The Townsville team, who represented Queensland in the Channel 7 reality show, said they were thankful for how far they had made it in the competition.

"We're not disappointed, just really stoked we were chosen and be the only couple in Queensland to get that far," Maddi said.

"We walk away with a fully renovated house inside and out, we're just lucky."

One of their biggest challenges was when the couple moved away from a house's interior to work in the garden, Maddi said.

"It was incredibly hard," she said.

"We had five houses to practice on and to build up our skills and then we moved to gardens where we don't have any experience.

"We were thrown in the deep end."

Maddi and Lloyd were applauded for their decision to extend the back deck of Adam and Lisa's home in Melbourne to accommodate alfresco dining and an existing tree.

But the Townsville duo's efforts in the Victorian team's back yard failed to impress judges, Joe Snell and Wendy

Moore, who gave them a combined score of 12 points.

"I think you guys had the beginning of a really wonderful garden," House Rules judge Wendy Moore said.

"But you didn't quite follow through."

Fellow judge Joe Snell said the layout was poor, particularly the brick path dividing the lawn which was "OTT" (over the top).

Meanwhile Lloyd said it was also difficult to follow the other contestants' house rules at times.

"You think you're on the right track but then the judges come in and it's the complete opposite," Lloyd said.

"Maddi and I would try to be creative and try to follow the rules down to a tee but sometimes it didn't work in our favour."

Working in such close proximity all the time can strain a relationship, but this was not the case for them, Lloyd said.

"Something great we've taken away from the competition is we know our relationship can handle massive stresses," he said.

"We've become a lot closer as a couple."

The show's grand final prize is the payment of the winning team's mortgage.

The next episode will air tonight at 7.30pm tonight on Channel 7.
