Elderly man charged over alleged indecent assault on teen

A MAN has been charged over the alleged indecent assault of a Coffs Harbour teenager earlier this year.

The 14-year-old boy was confronted by a man inside a toilet cubicle at Saltwater Park on Harbour Dr, just before 10am on Saturday, January 2.

The man allegedly indecently assaulted the teen, however the teen was able kick him and flee the cubicle.

Investigations by detectives from the Coffs Clarence Local Area Command and the State Crime Command's Child Abuse Squad led to the arrest of a 71-year-old Dorrigo man yesterday.

The man was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where he was charged with inciting a person under 16 years to commit an act of indecency, and indecently assaulting of person under 16 years.

He was refused bail to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court on April 12.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing and detectives are attempting to determine whether anyone else was involved in the alleged assault.
