Fun for Easter Sunday rodeo

FANS of rodeo and western sports should hop around to Macksville Showground this Sunday after the Easter Bunny has left a supply of chocolate eggs.

The Mid North Coast Team Penning Association will hold the monthly competition day, and publicist Phil Grace has revealed a new timetable for the change of seasons.

“Even though it’s still autumn we are getting ready for winter with an 8am sign on and will start competition one hour later,” he said.

“So get up early and find all your Easter eggs, eat them for breakfast, and with all that sugar-fuelled energy come out for a great day’s riding and sport watching.

“The canteen should be available for lunch but our regular camp cook will be away, so none of her legendary vanilla slice . . . sorry about that.”

Also, the association has been invited to host an extra competition day at the Willawarrin Rodeo Grounds at the end of the month.

“This will be a special fundraising event for the McMullan and Roach families who were struck by tragedy earlier this year,” Grace said.

“One of their young men sustained spinal injuries and is now in a wheelchair.

“The local community, led by Sharon McIver and Jodie Thurgood, are hosting the fundraising weekend with horse sports on Saturday afternoon (April 30) commencing at 1pm and team penning will start on Sunday at 9am.

“Camping is available at the grounds and the Willawarrin pub will be having a band and meals on Saturday evening.

“Funds raised will assist the families in this time of upheaval and transition in their lives, so the more riders and spectators that come along the better we can help support a young wife with two small children and a husband who will need a whole lot of extra care.”

All events are weather dependent, so if it has been raining, phone president Tim Zeck on 6568 3209 to confirm events are still running.
