Easter Cup becomes a Winter Cup

THE Coffs Harbour Racing Club has accepted a request from the industry to drop their Easter Saturday community race day and instead run a TAB race day on Saturday, June 5.

Club CEO Russ Atkinson said that the change of dates was a positive one for them.

“On a local perspective the traditional Easter Cup Race Day has always been very much a family day and the move to June 5 allows us to continue a family day with entertainment and establish a ‘Winter Cup’ as a prelude to our Gold Cup carnival of racing in July/August,” Atkinson said.

“From a racing and financial perspective, the move will also allow the club to benefit from a TAB program on a Saturday with the additional benefit of savings in extra costs by not racing on a public holiday such as Easter Saturday.”

Those who had planned to spend the afternoon of Easter Saturday trackside will not be left disappointed.

A betting Auditorium to coincide with the Golden Slipper will be held at the Racing Club on Easter Saturday so that both members and regulars alike can come along to enjoy a social beverage, have a punt with a bookie or the TAB and watch all the action from Rosehill Gardens with the richest race in the world for two year-olds.
