Early poll points to a new mayor

IF THE Advocate's online poll is anything to go by, Coffs Harbour might have a new Mayor in four weeks' time.

Shortly after all of the eight mayoral candidates were known on Wednesday, the Advocate asked readers who they think they would vote for come election day.

The poll still has another four days to run but at this stage Cr Denise Knight appears to be in the lead for Coffs Harbour's top office.

Cr Knight has received 28% of the 377 votes** lodged in the poll, placing her ahead of the incumbent, Cr Keith Rhoades, who had received 20% of the vote.

Cr John Arkan is running a Liberal Party ticket and he's next in line with 15% of the vote.

Greens candidate Dr Sally Townley is also prominent with 13% of the vote.

The poll can't be easily skewed either as only one vote is allowed from each computer IP address, which stops individuals placing a large number of votes for one candidate. The early poll finishes at 6am on Wednesday.

Another poll will be conducted in the week leading up to September 8 to gauge the mood of the electorate.

** Figures at 4pm Friday.
