Dutchman wins final gold

THE Netherlands' Dorian van Rijsselberge has won the gold medal in the last ever Olympic men's RS:X.

The Dutchman headed to the top of the podium in front of local hope, Great Britain's Nick Dempsey, and Poland's Przemyslaw Miarczynski.

Van Rijsselberge was never in fear of his competitors, doing enough in the first nine rounds to be safe in the knowledge that even a last place finish in the final round would guarantee the gold medal.

The Dutchman will go down in history as the last man to win the RS:X with the sport due to be replaced by kiteboarding at the next Olympics in Brazil.
