Drunk driver takes swipe at cop car

A DRUNK driver sideswiped a police car before speeding off and crashing into a power pole at Macksville on Saturday night.

Around 11pm Saturday a marked police car heading east on Wallace Street was struck by a green Holden Commodore.

A police spokesman said the Commodore came over the bridge and crossed to the wrong side of the road, where it collided with the rear of the police vehicle, which sustained minor damage.

The Commodore continued driving until it reached Taylors Arm Road, where it collided with a power pole and came to rest near a paddock fence.

The passenger sustained head injuries and was removed from the vehicle by emergency services.

The driver, a 49-year-old man, failed a breath test and was taken to Macksville Police Station then to Macksville Hospital for blood and urine samples.
