Drugs found while sleeping

HEAVILY intoxicated and weary, a Coffs Harbour man lay down to sleep off a drunken episode in the city centre.

When he came to later, he found himself the local police station facing charges of drug possession.

Officers were called to the Coffs CBD on the afternoon of February 25 by reports a man was causing a scene.

Passers-by told them a heavily intoxicated man dressed in white pants and a blue shirt had been abusing people in the area about 5.30pm. Brett John Rowland, 46, matched the description when he was found taking a nap in the area.

Officers helped him up and searched his pockets in an attempt to find out his identification. In the hunt for a driver’s licence, they also found a small plastic resealable bag containing a small amount of cannabis.

Found guilty of the offence in the Coffs Harbour Local Court, Rowland was issued a $500 fine for possession of a prohibited drug.
