POLICE are yet to release the name of a 32-year-old man who drowned at South West Rocks yesterday afternoon.

The man was swimming at a beach in the seaside township just before 3.30pm when he got into difficulty.

A surf lifesaver on a jet-ski brought the unconscious man ashore.

However, attempts by NSW Ambulance paramedics to revive him were unsuccessful and he died at the scene.

Police from Mid North Coast Local Area Command are conducting inquiries into the incident.

They'll prepare a report for the information of the State Coroner.

The man is believed to be a father of five young children and had recently moved into the district, living at Smithtown.

It was the second reported beach incident on the Mid North Coast on Saturday.

Earlier at around 11am a man was assisted from the surf at Diggers Beach in Coffs Harbour after reports of him getting into difficulties.

After being assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics he declined transport to Coffs Harbour Health Campus.
