Drifting into Coffs to tackle Raleigh Raceway

ROUND one of Drift Challenge Australia takes place this weekend at Raleigh International Raceway.

Coffs Harbour motorsport up-and-comer Mitch Sutton is one of the prominent Aussie drivers preparing to take the battle right up to the overseas visitors from New Zealand and Japan.

"It is going to be an awesome opportunity and an exciting experience for myself, the other drivers and especially the spectators," he said.

At just 23, Mitch has lived in Coffs for most of his life.

Working as a mechanic for the past seven years he believes he is lucky to be involved in the industry allied to his chosen sport.

"It provides me with the knowledge and skills needed to build, rebuild, repair and maintain the vehicle to the immaculate state it needs to be in to take part in these competitions," he said.

"With my team mates at Coffs Mechanical Repairs, Mick Wilkins and Brad Eade, we spend hours and hours working on the cars, motivating each other along the way.

"There is always something more that can be done, or something that needs repairing or replacing to keep the drift machine in top condition."

Gates open both days at 9am.
