Dramatic victory for West Coffs

IN a dramatic final round, West Coffs grabbed the Mid North Coast men’s bowls district grade two pennant flag from Sawtell’s grasp on Saturday.

Needing to defeat Park Beach 2 in the final round, Sawtell suffered a crushing 4.5-1.5 loss allowing West Coffs to seal the pennant with a 5-1 win over Stuarts Point.

In the final analysis, it was Sawtell’s inability to defeat West Coffs in the home and away matches which cost the club the grade two district pennant.

In the match which had no consequence to the final results, Park Beach 1 accounted for Coffs Ex-Services 6-0.

Urunga capped a fantastic season in grade three finishing with 50.5 points after a 5-1 win over Woolgoolga in the final round. Despite a 4-2 loss to Sawtell, Park Beach finished second in grade three while Nambucca downed Scotts Head 5-1.

Already with the pennant in hand going into the final round, Woolgoolga finished on a high downing Park Beach 5-1 in grade four while Coffs Ex-Services and Macksville were also final round winners.

In what loomed as a showdown for the grade five pennant, Nambucca was far too strong for Woolgoolga winning 6-0 by 111 shots to 22.

Bowraville are the district grade six champions after a 6-0 win over Sawtell in the final round as their nearest challengers Nambucca Heads fell in a heap after a 6-0 loss to Coffs Ex-Services.

Sectional champions in grade seven, Sawtell and Nambucca primed themselves for the play-off with strong final round wins.\

The grade seven district title will be decided at North Beach on Saturday. Zone pennant finals between Mid North Coast and Lower North Coast teams will be played on Sunday, May 30.

Grades 1-4 will play at Port Panthers with grades 5-7 in action at Park Beach.
