Drainage concerns for plaza boss

DRAINS are the topic that Steve Gooley wants to see high on the post- clean up agenda.

The general manager of the Bachrach Group, which owns and operates Park Beach Plaza and HomeBase is keen to organise a meeting with Coffs Harbour City Council and other business and property owners to talk about the future regime for maintenance of stormwater drains.

Water came into the front of Park Beach Plaza on Tuesday night and through six shops at HomeBase.

Although he said it did not cause the flooding Mr Gooley believes the drainage system is not being adequately maintained and this had contributed to the inundation of some areas.

He said they had held meetings with council over the last two years about drains on council land which receive water from the shopping centre drains and he believed too much weight was being given to environmental considerations regarding vegetation in urban waterways.

He said last Tuesday a major drain beside WOW Sight and Sound which had become clogged had sent water over Mastracolas Rd and in the back HomeBase.
