DARLING Downs will have a strong presence at next month's Queensland Country Championships following the team's unbeaten 2015 run on the representative rugby paddock.

Ten Downs players have been included in the 25-man South Queensland squad contesting this year's championships in Port Douglas from June 6-8.

The Downs contingent will combine with nine Sunshine Coast and six Gold Coast players to tackle North and Central Queensland in the Queen's Birthday weekend tournament.

Darling Downs squad domination follows its victory at this month's South Queensland Championships where it lifted the trophy for the first time in 12 years with wins over the Sunshine and Gold coasts.

Downs squad contribution includes Queensland Country Heelers players Sonny Power and Paul Maguire and a host of first-time representatives.

Successful Downs coach Rob Johnston will be in charge of South Queensland in Port Douglas.

"I think 10 players is a fair Downs representation in the squad remembering our captain Tom Simpson missed the championships through injury and Sam Hogarth is also on the injured list," Johnston said.

"But the players picked bring a good mixture of experience and youth with young players like Lachlan Tulloch and Angus Ramsey given an opportunity.

"Other players like Roger Geldard and Andre Van Staden probably weren't selection front-runners, but they put their hands up at the championships and played themselves in to the squad. It's a just reward."
