Downs pair to debut for South Qld

DALBY prop Eddie Dean and Toowoomba Rangers' hooker Rob Paterson will continue their climb up the representative ladder after being chosen in the 2018 South Queensland squad.

South Queensland will contest this year's Queensland Country Championships against its Central and North Queensland rivals in Townsville next weekend.

Nine senior Darling Downs' players have won South Queensland selection following Downs' win in last weekend's South Queensland Championship including Dean and Paterson who will debut in South Queensland colours.

Eleven colts players will represent Downs in the South Queensland squad contesting next weekend's under 19 Country Championships.

Downs' coaches Cameron Littleton and Mike Dillon will be in charge of the South Queensland Colts.

Downs Rugby general manager Mitch Simpson said despite several Downs' players not being available for South Queensland selection the squad representations are a positive reflection on the region's player depth.

"Having 20 players in total chosen from our region is a very pleasing result from a Downs Rugby's perspective,” Simpson said.

"One of the most pleasing aspects is the spread of clubs represented, particularly in the colts division.

"The 11 under 19 representative come from something like nine different clubs.”
