Positions vacant at hospitals

THE search is on for a new manager and director of nursing for the Macksville and Bellingen River District Hospitals.

Just months after assuming the joint roles, Jenny Zirkler has resigned.

In February, Ms Zirkler added the roles at the Bellingen Hospital to those she already held at Macksville after the shock retirement of Vince Carroll who did not return from a holiday break. Her shared responsibilities across the two hospitals lead many to speculate that the facilities were being amalgamated.

The North Coast Area Health Service chief executive Chris Crawford said Ms Zirkler will finish “within a month.”

“She is leaving for personal reasons and I wish her well,” Mr Crawford said.

“We will be looking at appointing a temporary replacement for the roles Ms Zirkler held,” he said.

Mr Crawford said the current trial amalgamation of the two hospitals still had a month to run and so no decision on a permanent replacement would be made until a review of the trial was finalised.

“Once that review is done towards the end of July, we will know whether we are looking for one person to continue in the shared role, or two people to manage each of the hospitals on their own,” he said.
