Doorknockers need support

COFFS Coast residents are being asked to dig deep and support the Heart Foundation when a volunteer knocks on your door this month.

Coffs Harbour MP Andrew Fraser said every cent raised by the Heart Foundation’s Doorknock Appeal will go towards the fight against heart disease, which is the number one killer of Australian men and women.

“When considering that an Australian dies from heart disease every 23 minutes it has never been more important to help support the Heart Foundation carry out its life-saving work,” Mr Fraser said.

“The Heart Foundation is dedicated to reducing the impact of cardiovascular disease in Australia, which includes helping to minimise the number of people living with, or dying from, heart, stroke and blood vessel disease, and has this year alone invested $13.6 million into cardiovascular research.

“More than 110,000 volunteers will doorknock across Australia throughout September with the aim of raising $5 million to fund critical research and community research projects to improve awareness, prevention and treatment of heart disease.”

If you’re not home when a doorknock volunteer visits, you can make a credit card donation directly to the Heart Foundation Doorknock Hotline on 1800 552 255 or by visiting www.heartfoundation.org.au/doorknock.
