Donations desperately needed

WITH the flood crisis now extending to three-quarters of Queensland, it is more important than ever to help out a mate.

APN, publisher of The Coffs Coast Advocate, is running a Help Your State, Help a Mate campaign urging readers throughout Queensland and northern New South Wales to donate to the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal.

To date, the appeal has raised almost $36 million, but much more will be needed to put the battered State back on its feet.

For almost a month, Queensland has been under siege from the forces of nature, with few communities untouched by floodwaters.

Devastation turned to unimaginable tragedy this week with multiple lives lost in Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley and now the tentacles of the disaster have reached Brisbane, the State’s capital, and flowed over the border to affect northern New South Wales.

It will take years to rebuild Queensland and cost billions of dollars, so every bit of cash you can spare will help.

Funds from the appeal will be administered by the Red Cross, so readers can be assured money they donate will go to those most in need.

To donate, phone 1800 219 028 or visit www.qld.gov.au/floods. Donations over $2 are tax deductible.
