Biloela to stage play of real stories of domestic violence
A PLAY based on real Queensland stories of domestic violence and survival is coming to the region and creators hope it will prompt discussion about tackling the problem.
The play, It All Begins With Love, is a three-year project from a Bundaberg-based arts group and uses direct experiences from victims and perpetrators who have been interviewed.
It will start touring the state later this month and be performed in Biloela on November 4.
The arts group, Creative Regions, has investigated ways to use performing arts as an intervention strategy for domestic violence.
Creative producer Rod Ainsworth said he interviewed dozens of people for the piece, including perpetrators, and hoped the play would lift the lid on domestic violence in small towns.
"The play, only 30 minutes in length, is designed to reflect the 'light at the end of the tunnel' - especially given that it is hoped the play will be used in education and counselling situations as a conversation starter," he said.
"However, it was important to reflect the tinge of darkness that is ever present for victims of domestic violence."
The Biloela performance will be held at Biloela Civic Centre.
