Dogs to hit the track at Toormina

LASSIE has nothing on the dogs about to embark on Toormina.

This weekend, the Rex Hardaker Oval will be home to hundreds of dogs of all shapes and sizes jumping, twisting and weaving their way to victory in the Triple Obedience and Double Agility Trials.

Hosted by the Coffs Harbour Dog Training Club Inc, the trials are aimed at showcasing the healthy relationships between dogs and their owners.

“We have received more than 700 entries, including some from a number of Coffs Harbour Club members who will be competing alongside experienced handlers from as far away as southern Queensland and the ACT,” Coffs Harbour Dog Training Club’s Michelle Evans said.

Handlers and their dogs will compete in various disciplines associated with dog training, including obedience, agility and jumping.

Obedience is an event which highlights the bond between a dog and its human companion while they complete a number of exercises under the watchful eye of a judge. Agility is the action-packed event which involves a dog and its handler negotiating an obstacle course within a set time. The trials will run on both days and the public is welcome to attend.
