Doctor on Duty fills health gap

A NEW after hours medical service is available on the Coffs Coast.

Only months after the closure of the original 24 hour medical centre, Doctor on Duty aims to fill the after hours care gap.

Doctor on Duty is a team of experienced doctors who treat patients needing medical attention when their GP or medical centre is closed. It is available to anyone with a Medicare card.

Well known local GP, Doctor Andrew Lucas is the medical director of Doctor on Duty.

"Many of our patients are in situations where they may not be able to leave their homes. They may have an ill child or an elderly person in their care who needs medical attention before their GP re-opens in the morning or after the weekend," Dr Lucas said.

"Quality care is our priority. We go to patients when and where they need us most.

"We attend to them in their own homes and also visit many patients in local nursing homes or other locations within the community."

The doctors are available Monday-Friday from 6pm-8am, after noon on Saturday and offer a 24 hour service on Sundays and public holidays.

All home visits are bulk billed for local residents.
