Dishing it up at Growers' Market
VISITORS to tomorrow’s Coffs Coast Growers’ Market will have the chance to see what they can do with locally sourced produce.
Award-winning chef Dustin Bowie-Ford will be showing off his culinary skills from noon to 1pm.
The 2010 Mid North Coast Signature Dish Award-winner and resident culinary genius at Emerald Beach restaurant Saltwater, Dustin will not know what delicious dish he will create until the day as he will be sourcing all his ingredients fresh from the market in the morning.
“I don’t know what ingredients I will use until I get there and see what the best quality is on the day – that’s the beauty of the market,” he said.
“I’m very spontaneous with food and normally my best work comes from that.”
Anyone coming along will also have the chance to hear Dustin’s tips on a wide variety of cooking techniques that can turn our local produce into meals fit for a masterchef.
Dustin is becoming a familiar face at the Growers’ Market. Last year, he faced local amateur chefs Ellen Brennan and Keith Street in the final of the ‘Show Us Ya Dish’ competition, which gave amateur chefs the opportunity to show off their talents.
