Disease management will feature at banana workshop

COFFS Coast banana growers can get the latest information on banana management issues at a workshop hosted by Department of Primary Industries (DPI) later this month.

DPI banana industry development officer Matt Weinert said the workshop will provide growers with information on a range of topics including tropical race 4 panama disease, leaf and soil analysis, nematode identification and management and banana plant nutrition.

"With the recent outbreak of tropical race 4 panama disease in north Queensland, this topic is very timely and growers need to be aware of this debilitating disease in order to help protect the NSW banana industry," he said.

"Maintaining best practice is vital for growers and the session on banana plant nutrition will demonstrate the importance of optimal nutrition to maintain high quality production."

The workshop includes information from suppliers on a range of topics, machinery, organics, financial advice and succession planning.

The workshop will be held on February 17 from 8am to midday at the Burringbar District Sports Club in Burringbar.

To RSVP or for details contact Matt Weinert on 0438644136 or matt.weinert @dpi.nsw.gov.au.
