Disaster hits Scott at windy Augusta

ADAM Scott three-putted each of his final two holes to sign for an opening 75 at the Masters after enduring through conditions as tough as he'd seen in a decade.

The 2013 masters champ had mixed results off the tee early, finding fairway bunkers on three of his opening nine holes, but was hanging on in extremely blustery conditions and he was only one-over through 16 holes.

But disaster struck late and he hit the clubhouse after going bogey, bogey and knows only a better performance in round two will get him to the weekend.

"It's not exactly what I wanted, I bogeyed three of my last four holes," Scott said.

"I played a lot of good stuff out there considering conditions are tough. But two three putts to finish really sours the day's work.

"The gusts, you can't predict them and they can be devastating to any shot.

"I would have to have putted better from six to 10 feet.

"I need to stay in the same position if it's going to be windy again. I don't think we are going to have any super low scores. If I can claw a couple back towards par with a really good round, or ever par could even keep me in touch with the lead for the weekend."

Scott's playing partners felt for the world number seven who felt the full force of the winds on the green as short putts went sailing past the hole on 17.

"The gusts are just killer. I mean, Adam had a putt on 17 and it is straight down hill and it almost blew back up the hill,' England's Andy Sullivan, who finished one-under said.
