Diggers to celebrate its 50th

DIGGERS Cricket Club is planning to celebrate its 50 years in the Coffs Harbour cricket competition with a mega weekend of activities planned for mid-February.

The highlight of the weekend will be a formal dinner staged at the Coffs Ex-Services Club on Saturday, February 12.

Club president Steve Meakins encouraged all cricket fans both inside and outside of the club to attend the special evening.

“It promises to be a fun night to celebrate Diggers’ achievements in the local cricketing arena,” Meakins said. The club stalwart added that the night will involve more than just a stroll down memory lane.

“We have locked in ex-test paceman Rodney Hogg as the night’s keynote speaker,” he revealed.

“There will also be the announcement of the ‘Diggers Team of the Half Century’ as well as a release of the History of Diggers’ Cricket Club publication.”

The dinner isn’t the only gala event on the run sheet for the weekend.

Meakins said that a cricket match played the next day will be sure to see club loyalties tested.

A Diggers Old Boys side will do battle at Fitzroy Oval against a team assembled from the ranks of current players.
