Dick Smith announces store closures

THE receivers winding up the now defunct Dick Smith chain of retail stores have announced the doors will shut on the one time electronics giant by April 30.

In a media release receivers Ferrier Hodgson said employees would be looked after.

"We would like to thank the Dick Smith employees for their support during the controlled closure process," receiver James Stewart said.

"This is a difficult and uncertain time for them and we have really appreciated their commitment.

"All Australian employee entitlements will rank as priority unsecured claims ahead of the secured creditors and are expected to be paid in full."

Mr Stewart said a total of 35 stores would be given early closure dates.

In Queensland the Toowoomba store will close on April 16 and the Airlie Beach store will close on the same date.
