Devils blood Cutler

SEVENTEEN-year-old halfback David Cutler will make his debut for the Gympie Devils tonight in their A Grade clash against Beerwah at Jack Stokes Oval.

The Kingaroy product is one of nine new players to bolster the defending premier’s squad since their last round loss to Caboolture, 30-10.

Cutler has represented Queensland in the under 16 age group and Devils coach John Greensil is hoping the young gun can help fill the void left by ex-Devils halfback and now Sunshine Coast Sea Eagle pivot Nick Swan.

The Devils have already been boosted by the return of hard running forwards Riley McDowell and Brad English but Devils management hinted at some more surprise inclusions for the squad in the near future.

Greensil said the Devils were starting to get back the winning feeling around the training paddock.

“We are starting to get the squad back together,” Greensil said.

“Our depth is really improving.”

Greensil said the hardest thing for the team was trying to get the old combinations working again.

“We have lost two of our three games but are still only two points behind the leading team.

“A couple of wins and we will be back on top of the table again,” he said.

The Devils are holding a ladies day today with free entry to all women.
