Developer yet to take next step

SANDY Shores’ representative Peter Darby said yesterday that they had not yet taken the next step with the development, which would involve submitting a development application to the Department of Planning.

Sandy Shores is a proposed subdivision of up to 200 lots on the northern side of Hearnes Lake, located between Safety Beach, the Pacific Highway and the Pacific Ocean.

The Department of Planning gave concept approval for a modified version of the proposed development on December 20, in spite of advice from Coffs Harbour City Council that approval should be for only 35 lots.

The original proposal was for 280 lots on the 49.5 ha coastal site.

Mr Darby said he could not comment at this stage on the Coffs Harbour City Council’s legal action, which is against the Department of Planning, not the developer, as he had not seen details of the proceedings.
