Detectives probe toddler's death

HOMICIDE squad detectives have established a strike force in Coffs Harbour to investigate the death of a child earlier this month.

The two-year-old girl died of head injuries, including a fractured skull, a day after she was rushed to the Coffs Harbour Health Campus.

Police said the girl was taken by ambulance to hospital on March 30 about 11.30am after her mother called 000.

The toddler was airlifted to Westmead Children’s Hospital later that night.

As a result of the injuries she suffered, the child died on April 1.

Police say the matter is currently being treated as suspicious and investigations are continuing.

Strike Force Embley comprises detectives from the State Crime Command’s homicide squad and joint investigation response squad.

The strikeforce has been established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

Investigators have interviewed the parents of the child, who are assisting with police inquiries.

The child was in the company of another adult at the time the injuries were sustained.

Anyone who may have any information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
