DeLorean owners fly back to the future on Coffs Coast visit
HEADS swivelled and Coffs Coast film buffs of a certain vintage were transfixed when a strange automobile went by them on the weekend.
No ... your eyes were not deceiving you.
That really was a DeLorean DMC-12 'time machine' immortalised in the Back To The Future film trilogy.
Just like the one Doc Brown and Marty McFly used for 130 years of time travel around Hill Valley.
And not just one ... but 11 of the special sports vehicles paying a visit.
The cars are in prime condition and belong to members of the DeLorean Owners Club of Australia who decided meeting up on the Coffs Coast sounded like a good idea.
After basing themselves at Aanuka Beach Resort, the convoy of cars did the touristy thing of visiting the Big Banana and other attractions.
Owner Nathan Clark arrived in his replica show car based on the time machine in the movie with all the fittings including the famous "flux capacitor" which according to the movie "creates the 1.21 gigawatts to make time travel possible."
Nathan was called on by Universal Studios in Hollywood to help restore the actual DeLorean car used in Back To The Future.
It gave him access to specifications and parts to build his own tribute car.
"Although my car is fitted with an aftermarket Chevrolet V8 engine, not the standard 2.8 litre V6," he said.
Hopefully, they'll all be back real soon.
