FIRE has caused extensive damage to a new house in Deebing Heights.

The blaze started in the kitchen of the family home on Bottlebrush Dve about 2pm.

Two adults and a child were home at the time and were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Sadly, attempts to save the family cat were unsuccessful.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire within the kitchen area, however there is extensive damage to the roof, as well as smoke damage throughout the house.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
