Motorcyclist who died in Tweed was no stranger to road

POLICE said a man who died in a motorbike crash on Friday had been an experienced rider.

The Byron Bay man, 69, and his 900cc Triumph bike, were no strangers to the road.

"He was an experienced motorcycle rider," Tweed Traffic and Highway Patrol Sergeant Chad George said.

"He'd been riding most of his life, every day."

Sgt George said the man was travelling north on Tweed Valley Way, Crabbes Creek when he turned at a left-hand bend.

"For unknown reasons he crossed over to the other side of the road and was ejected from the bike," he said.

"He rolled down an embankment and hit a tree."

It is unknown if the driver suffered a heart attack or what caused him to crash.

Police, at this stage, were unable to release the man's name.
