D-Day: Bennett-Seibold coaching saga to be resolved

THE Wayne Bennett-Anthony Seibold coaching saga is expected to be finalised by the end of the week with the Broncos coach to meet club powerbrokers to try and resolve the standoff.

Bennett returns from the UK this week and will meet with Brisbane chairman Karl Morris in an attempt to determine whether he remains at Red Hill or makes an immediate move to Redfern.

Seibold has been reporting for work at South Sydney as per usual but there is a school of thought that the easiest way to end the stalemate is for Bennett to begin immediately with the Bunnies.

That would pave the way for Dally M coach of the year Seibold to make an immediate move to Brisbane, where he is already locked in on a four-year contract from 2020.

Bennett has been overseas coaching England for the past month, winning the series against the Kiwis 2-1.

Before departing the Broncos coach promised the Brisbane playing group he would return as their coach next season, which is why he is reluctant to entertain an immediate switch to South Sydney.

Further complicating the picture is the fact Bennett has had no communication with Broncos powerbrokers since Brisbane's awards night.

There is a view South Sydney's preference is to make the switch happen immediately.

The Rabbitohs remain hopeful of keeping NSW and Australian hooker Damien Cook at Redfern long-term regardless of what transpires with the coaching situation.

It is believed incoming coach Bennett has spoken to Cook about his future at South Sydney.
